The Local Industry Display Room
|
On display here are photographs and examples of many local industries including the works of the Hornsea Brick and Tile Works (c 1868- 1896), which was situated on the site of the Hornsea Pottery Company (now the Freeport retail outlet). Also on display are examples of local railway memorabilia in particular of the Hull and Homsea Railway which was opened by the summer of 1864. The railway was taken over by the North Eastern Railway and there are cast-iron signs of the N.E.R on display. The London and North Eastern Railway succeeded them in 1923, and there are several posters designed for them by the renowned poster artist, Hornsea's own Harry Hudson Rodmell. The Hull to Hornsea line was closed in 1964, when it was closed under the Beeching plan, just 100 years after it was opened. |
