July 2003 : Photo' Archive at the Museum
|
The Hornsea Community Heritage Archive Group are assembling a computer archive of photographs and recorded memories based on the history of Hornsea and the surrounding area. This project uses computer software, and will be based at the museum. The Heritage Archive Group, a not-for-profit organisation, hope to borrow photographs of Hornsea and the surrounding area for inclusion on their archive, and would love to hear from anyone who has suitable material. Please use the website contact address if you feel you may have material to contribute. The group are interested in including photos from any facet or period of the area's history - "the important thing is the memories that go with the pictures" said spokesperson Linda Trigg. "We can attach people's memories to the photos we scan in, either as text or recorded speech. Eventually the accumulated photographs and memories will make a rich archive depicting Hornsea history over the last century." Once the archive group are familiar with the software, they are planning on launching an appeal for material. In addition the museum will host an open day for people interested in the project. Once completed, the archive will be available for people to search at the museum, on the internet, and in CD Rom form. The group also hope to demonstrate the archive to local people in schools, residential homes, etc. and have purchased a laptop to make this possible. The project has been made possible by an award from the Lottery distributors "Awards for All". |
