July 2003 : Tribute to War Dead
|
A tribute to the Hornsea men who died whilst serving in the armed forces in the First World War has been published by Hornsea Museum. The booklet called "His Duty Nobly Done, The Hornsea Roll of Honour of the First World War 1914 - 1918" pays tribute to 103 men who gave their lives for King and country in the "War to End Wars". There are brief biographical details about the fallen, and a history of the many war memorials which were erected in the town, including the church clock and bells which, nearly ninety years on, still remind people of the sacrifice made by men of the town and their families. This story appears by courtesy of Hornsea and North Holderness Gazette. For details of other Museum books, please have a look at the publications web-page. |
